Auckland CouncilDemocracy Advisor/ Administration
Jul. 2016 - Nov. 2016Auckland, New ZealandDemocracy Advisors (DA) are specialists in democratic processes, including relevant legislation and public meeting procedures. Democracy Advisors work closely with the chair and lead officer of each committee in their portfolio. They have an overall strategic view of the key objectives and priorities of each committee they support. Democracy Advisors interact with report writers and can provide sound quality advice to anyone preparing reports for governance decisions. My role however is a little different. I was given a little freedom in helping define this role. This means I can take on multiple responsibilities in different teams within the governance department. I can be helping to organizing major debates, attending said debates or discussions on agendas, archiving, team organising, keeping track of costs and all members of the team, taking council attendance through SAP and SAP GUI, communication between teams, organizing and handling confidential documents and proof reading confidential text, organising security, being a point of communication for external companies and indexing. The role was initially 3 months until the new Auckland City Election. The role was extended for an extra month as I am involved with an online Governance website in which I have helped coordinate many different teams to come together. The project has involved understanding HTML code and uploading dense and informative content. Juggling both my ordinary work duties and helping with this large project has been a great opportunity.
