Wabtec CorporationDirector of Finance - Advanced Technology Team & Government-Funded R&D Projects
Apr. 2024 - Apr. 2025Erie, Pennsylvania, United StatesIn my current role, I lead the financial planning and performance management efforts for the Advanced Technologies Engineering division. I’m deeply involved in shaping long-term R&D strategies while ensuring that every government-funded program we run is executed with precision, efficiency, and full compliance. To support smarter decision-making at the executive level, I built and continually refine advanced, digitized business intelligence dashboards. These tools help connect the dots between our project commitments and their financial impact, tracking everything from labor allocation and throughput efficiency to vendor timelines and opportunities to cut indirect costs. One of my proudest accomplishments was launching a structured collaboration rhythm with our operations teams. This allowed us to break down project financials into a detailed matrix, clearly tying functional areas to both actual costs and forecasts. I also developed a robust financial policy framework to guide the full lifecycle of our large-scale government R&D projects. From evaluation and documentation to execution, closure, and audit-readiness, this framework provides clear direction, including compliance best practices based on CFR and FAR regulations. Another major milestone was driving the approval of our first federally billable rate on a $40M+ contract. I designed and implemented our labor vouchering process, and standardized how we recover direct, indirect, and overhead costs. Throughout, I’ve taken ownership of financial oversight for more than $135M in early-stage research programs. From proposal writing and risk management to controllership and timely financial deliverables, I make sure we’re aligned both internally and with our government sponsors, every step of the way.

Jan. 2021 - Apr. 2024Erie, Pennsylvania, United StatesI led the cost-effective execution of several complex, multi-year R&D programs—including the Tier 4 Emissions Locomotive, DC-to-AC Modernization, and India Battery-Electric/Hybrid Locomotive initiatives. Each of these programs delivered commercially viable outcomes while staying within tight budget constraints. To foster better coordination, I introduced a bi-weekly rhythm between engineering and product line leaders. This enabled more meaningful monthly operational reviews and helped align labor supply with demand, allowing us to anticipate and address workforce fluctuations proactively. In my financial leadership role, I oversaw the performance and cost strategy for an engineering team of over 2,000 professionals, managing more than $300M in annual spend across a portfolio of 400+ diverse projects. One of the ways I consistently drove results was by tightening accountability to labor metrics. This, along with growing our contingent workforce and shifting full-time staffing to cost-optimized global locations, helped us achieve over 3% annual cost productivity. I also led the effort to reduce our fully burdened engineering labor rates by 20%. This was accomplished through implementing a standardized rate model, segmenting labor categories, improving our time vouchering systems, and partially automating cost liquidation workflows. To streamline operations further, I revamped our finance toolkit—digitizing workflows with QlikView and Power BI, integrating multiple data sources, and eliminating manual steps. This cut our monthly financial closing time in half. Finally, I reshaped our cost allocation models and ROI frameworks while restructuring our engineering investment hierarchy across product lines that collectively generate over $5B in annual revenue.

Mar. 2012 - Dec. 2021Erie, Pennsylvania, United StatesI was responsible for building and maintaining detailed forecasts for key income statement items, making sure everything aligned closely with our broader business strategy. I took pride in ensuring that our financial reporting was not only accurate but also fully compliant with internal policies and external accounting standards. I led the preparation and analysis of our monthly, quarterly, and annual income statements—bringing both precision and clarity to the numbers that mattered most. One of my core achievements was leading the accurate estimation and validation of our consolidated income statements. This work was critical to maintaining financial integrity and staying in line with corporate standards for a $5B global heavy haul freight locomotive manufacturer. I also delivered detailed financial reports and sharp, data-driven insights to our Corporate HQ. This helped support high-level decision-making and played a key role in tracking and optimizing $1B in EBIT performance.
