PlandayChief Technology Officer (Business acquired)
Jul. 2014 - Feb. 2019London, United KingdomPlanday is a leading workforce management platform in Europe. It was acquired by Xero for €183.5 million (£158.5 million) in 2021. As a technology executive I helped secure several rounds of funding in excess of $50m from leading VC investors such as Creandum, IDinvest, and SEB. I grew the tech function from a small team to 100+ engineers. Working closely with partners such as Apple, Zendesk, Randstad, KPMG and many others I had full accountability for the technical success of Planday, managing a multimillion euro budget, a large distributed team, all technical operations, all R&D, and the architectural direction. I steered Planday through its most challenging moments such as restructuring the executive team, moving their on-premise operations to the cloud, putting in place the foundations for people scaling, developing a devops culture, moving from a monolith to microservice architecture, database partitioning to enable global scale, partnering with tech giants Apple, making the business GDPR compliant, obtaining ISO27001, introducing an agile approach across the business, and building a technical leadership team, including a new CTO/CPO who could work together to scale planday further. Tech: .net, reactjs, iOS, android, sql server, couchbase, amazon aws, azure, Kubernetes, windows, linux, cisco networking, HA Proxy, payments, DevOps, product driven organisation, striving for autonomous teams.
