Floaters MillManager
Dec. 2012 - Feb. 2014Chester-Le-StreetBrought in to a distressed asset, my remit was to turn this business around from running at a significant annual loss and into profitability within a very tight timeframe. Managing all aspects of the business including; marketing, stock control, budgeting/accounting, staff management, legal obligations, Health and Safety, maintenance, and capital investment, I transformed this investment from an annual loss of £300k to a profit within 6 months. Weekly takings were up from £4k to a peak of £22k and the restaurant count soared from 200 covers per week to over a 1500 average. In addition to the business side of this role, it’s also is a very customer facing position that needs a smile and a practical, calm attitude at all times. Whilst it may not seem like IT is very relevant to such a role, it was in fact pivotal to the turnaround of the business. By increasing staff productivity, streamlining the day to day processes, promoting the business on line and bringing the experience within the pub itself into the cyber world (WiFi, mobile phone quizzes, digital DJ/jukeboxes), we saw an immediate impact in turnover. IT responsibilities included; Creating WiFi for customers, separating LAN from customer WiFi, installing new computerised till systems and software to manage them, creating a back-office LAN with office and flat with networked printers and CCTV on mobile phones. Creating a web presence and building a social media following of over 1000 people and 15000 weekly views of our promotional items.
