RSESummer Intern
Jun. 2021 - Jul. 2024United Kingdom, InvernessAfter both my first and second year of university, I worked as an intern at Ross-Shire Engineering over the summer break. During my time at RSE I worked with the head Mechanical Project Engineer. Working on jobs with him gave me an incredible opportunity to learn first-hand practical skills in planning, organising, calculating, and budgeting. The knowledge I gained from the Mechanical Project-Engineer has been invaluable to my studies and understanding. In particular, I was delighted to be able to work on the release valve project and see it through to the end, as this furthered my confidence and I got to work on something I really enjoyed. During my second year at Ross-Shire Engineering, I was further able to take on more responsibilities and work on bigger jobs, as well as increasing my knowledge.
For my third summer as an intern, I was working with the Mechanical Engineering team. During this time, I was working on water treatment projects. I was tasked with carrying out calculations and ensuring, during the design process, that the pressures did not exceed a certain value, to ensure the system being designed would flow correctly. I was also introduced to pipeflow software and was introduced to new and expanded knowledge of the mechanical engineering world. During my fourth summer, I spent three months creating and writing code to calculate the centre of gravity of structures and buildings within RFEM software. Overall, this internship was an invaluable learning experience I carried forward into my years at university.
