African Art AgendaMultidisciplinary Artist
Aug. 2015Nairobi, KenyaThrough my diverse body of work—whether in visual art, film, or collaborative commissions—I strive to create art that is both a reflection of African histories and a challenge to future narratives. My goal is to continuously explore the evolving relationship between tradition and innovation, using art as a tool for dialogue, healing, and cultural transformation. I’ve exhibited in major global venues, including Dak'Art Biennale 2022 and the Berlin Biennale 2018. I have been commissioned for a variety of projects by embassies (British Council, German Embassy, Focus Scotland,) NGOs like (Urgent Action Fund Africa, CREA,) and multinationals like IKEA allowing me to merge mixed media, digital art, and storytelling into pieces that provoke conversations around African modernity and tradition and flex my project management muscle. I’ve participated in prestigious exhibitions and fellowships across the globe, fostering a deep engagement with both African and international artistic dialogues. My artistic journey includes residencies and fellowships like the Curationist Critics of Colour (2023), the Leaky Archive Fellowship at RJM Museum Cologne (2023), and the CREA Create Fellowship (2022/23). I’ve also been a part of the Forecast Mentorship for Audacious Minds (2021), working digitally from Berlin, and the Electric South Immersive Africa program (2019) in Cape Town. Each of these experiences has expanded my artistic practice, allowing me to explore new forms of expression through digital media, choreography, and storytelling. Notable exhibitions include School of Anxiety in Johannesburg, Nairobi, and Berlin (2017-2018), Body of Land in Glasgow and Nairobi (2018), and Dance Umbrella at Somerset House, London (2018). I have also worked on collaborative projects like Man the Unfree (Nairobi, Kigali, 2017), Node Forum for Digital Arts: Choreographic Coding Lab (Nairobi, Frankfurt, 2017), and East Africa Soul Train: Kovu Safarini (Nairobi, Mombasa, 2016).
