University of Arkansas for Medical SciencesResearch Assistant
Aug. 1985 - Nov. 1989While at the University I worked in the departments of Medicine, Physiology/Biophysics, and Microbiology/Biochemistry. During that time I was responsible for the optimization and execution of various research procedures, analytical instruments and assays as well as handling the purchasing and general maintenance of the lab equipment and reagents.
I am very familiar with and was adept at the processes involved with: culturing protozoans, bacteria, and viruses; protein isolation, SDS-PAGE, and Western blot antibody detection assays. I also had significant experience with RNA extraction and some DNA extraction and their associated electrophoresis procedures. I was responsible for the maintenance, tuning and use of an automated protein sequencer and the high pressure liquid chromatograph used for the purification of samples.
