The ACLU of MS has also been very successful in utilizing litigation to prevent erosions of civil liberties and civil rights related to initiatives and other ballot measures. Current strategic priorities include reducing inacaceration rates, advancing privacy rights related to technology, advancing immigrant rights, reforming the criminal justice system, as well as maintaining our commitment to LGBT rights, reproductive freedom, freedom of speech and assembly, racial justice and religious freedom. The Legal Director collaborates closely with other senior staff, as well as national ACLU staff, to advance ACLU priorities through our litigation, legislative, communications and outreach programs in an integrated advocacy model of law reform. The ACLU of MS Litigation Program engages in direct representation of individuals and organizations in both state and federal court, files amicus appearances and works with coalition partners to develop litigation strategies for advancing civil liberties and civil rights.
