Nov. 2015 - May. 2016Tucson, ArizonaUniversity of Arizona Veterinary Diagnostics Lab - Molecular Diagnostics For the University of Arizona Veterinary Diagnostics Lab, I was responsible for performing a wide range of molecular tests for clients. Molecular tests were for the detection of Avian Influenza, Canine Distemper Virus, Parvovirus, Trichomonas foetus, Newcastle Disease, Classical Swine Fever, Foot and Mouth Disease, Most molecular testing involved PCR (Reverse Transcriptase PCR, and qPCR to name a few). Before performing PCR, template preparation involved the extraction of RNA or DNA from animal tissue, swabs, or whole blood. Below is a brief summary of my accomplishments while employed with the lab. - Became approved for USDA APHIS NAHLN molecular testing of Avian Influenza, Foot and Mouth Disease, and Classical Swine Fever through proficiency testing. - Validated new test methodologies within first three months of employment, resulting in financial profit for laboratory. - Incorporated the useage of SYBR safe reagents in place of EtBr for safer work environment for employees. - Responsible for ordering molecular lab supplies and reagents. - Composed electronic and hard copy primer and reagent inventories for molecular labs to ensure validity of client results.
