Self-employedOrganizational Change, Resilience, and Sustainability Consulting
Jul. 2014Richmond, Virginia AreaI consult with colleges, universities, and non-profits to catalyze transformational change within their organizations. This includes a nearly ten-year relationship with Mercy Corps, where I collaborated with program and technical teams in 15 countries across Africa and Asia. My focus areas include: strategic planning; improved program quality and standards; program assessment and evaluation; strategic communications and storytelling; and curriculum, community of practice, and workshop design and facilitation. Sample consulting projects include: • In collaboration with senior leadership, technical, and implementation teams, I designed and facilitated a series of strategy processes and workshops over 1.5 years, enabling a $140M+ USAID-funded food security program in Northern Kenya to: 1) tailor implementation to key populations, focusing on marginalized groups (e.g., youth, women/girls); 2) reinforce/build community capacity to address complex threats to wellbeing; 3) strengthen systems critical to sustaining wellbeing gains; and 4) measure for impact. • I served as the lead curriculum and community of practice designer, pilot facilitator, and facilitator trainer for the first-of-its-kind Resilience, Collaboration, Learning and Adaptation (RCLA) Fellowship—a learning community focused on transforming aid through resilience, social inclusion, collaboration, and systems thinking. • Through collaborations with Mercy Corps program teams and participants in Nepal, Mongolia, the DRC, Zimbabwe, and Uganda, I designed and piloted the agency’s first resilience communications and storytelling tools. • First with the Big Ten and Friends Sustainability Group, then Second Nature, I analyzed college and university strategic planning documents to identify opportunities to elevate sustainability and climate commitments by aligning with leadership priorities.
