Got the license and built this 100,000 watt radio station in San Angelo, Texas from the ground up. KELI started out as an automated elevator music station and evolved into a personality driven Lite Adult Contemporary station that stayed in the top 3 for Adults 25-54 for 6 years.

Jan. 1979 - Jan. 1981Houston, TexasKLOL/Houston was a legendary album rock radio station, and every rock DJ in Texas wanted to work there. I was there in the last of the free form days and the during the changeover to a Lee Abrams-influenced format. During that time, we drove direct competitor KILT-FM out of the format. KLOL has undergone several ownership changes since I left, and now broadcasts a Spanish format. :-(

It was a tremendous learning experience, and I owe a huge debt of grattitude to Wendell Mayes, Jr. and Bill Mayne.

Jan. 1973 - Jan. 1976One of the original "Laid Back Jocks". Worked on the air 4pm-8pm. Selected all the albums that went into the control room on this free-form Album Rock station. Imagine a bunch of college kids let loose in a room full of record albums who could play pretty much anything they wanted. Today's corporate radio types freak-out at the concept, but we all had the same vision for how the station was supposed to sound. It worked so well that we drove our well-established competitor into another format.
