BMW GroupStudent Project | Assembly, simulation and facility layout engineer
Jul. 2017 - Dec. 2017Pretoria Area, South AfricaWas presented with a pre-built facility that needed to be optimally utilised to ensure adequate production. Utilized known process speeds, statistical order probability and resource utilization to create a best-case simulation model of the current planned layout. Considered input from departmental heads, managers and other stakeholders and the insights of floor workers to capture not only strategic intent but also day-to-day operational challenges. Identified possible bottlenecks and utilized system specifications and historical data to determine regularity and likelihood of delays, downtimes and wastage. Simulated various alternative layouts and documented how they could mitigate forecasted process inefficiencies. These simulated alternatives considered resources allocated, speed of certain processes, transportation alternatives, elimination of unnecessary movements etc. A user-friendly interchangeable model was also delivered for the organization to see the impact of any additional changes in the future.
