Dec. 2017 - Aug. 2020La Vernia, TxI started my tutoring efforts when I began my Ed S in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment as the realization that we were leaving potentially successful children behind because we as educational institutions were focused on the testing numbers and when in school tutoring was being offered it was not to those that had the biggest gaps. These children received in school support but after school tutoring was for the children that had smaller gaps and with additional support would be able to reach a minimum passing score, be counted for growth because they passed and are at grade level , and finally the children that are at grade level but with additional support would be able to reach mastery.
Success should be deemed by personal growth and not a number that grants educational institutions funds for passing when the number that should be looked at is are ALL students reaching their potential and if not, what are you doing with government funds to assist them.
This idea of mine has seen several forgotten children successful on many levels. I have kept myself small and am now looking to what the future for my tutoring looks like. I have expanded to offering online support via one to one classrooms, starting a go fund me so that I can purchase a small bus and convert it into a mobile classroom, and of course, house calls. All of my service include having access to me 24/7 as well as meetings with parents and teachers to ensure we are all looking and focusing on the same goals for improvement.
