Executive Assistant to Managing Partner
S3 Entertainment GroupExecutive Assistant to Managing Partner
Feb. 2011 - Feb. 2012Ferndale, MII arrived to my home state in February 2011 to participate in the burgeoning film industry that was gathering steam with various high-budget productions shooting locally including "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" and "Oz the Great and Powerful." At the time, the state of Michigan offered the country's most generous financial incentive package for film productions that shot within the state. Almost as soon as I arrived, the local film community was dealt a massive blow with the proposal of a new state budget that severely limited the amount of tax dollars allocated for in-state film production. Through my position at S3 Entertainment, I worked with metro Detroit's most influential supporters of the local film community to galvanize legislators into modifying the film incentive line item in the state budget. To do so, I organized rallies attended by hundreds of local community members and worked with the local media to spread our message. I also helped to coordinate the Uptown Film Festival (UFF), which was held over two days in Birmingham, MI in March of 2011. The UFF showcased more than 60 short and full-length films, each of which was shot entirely or partially in the state of Michigan. The festival attracted more than 5,000 attendees and was a point of pride for one of metro Detroit's trendiest cities.
