Antoinette Engel is an award-winning independent producer committed to the collaborative spirit that underpins all creative projects and places great value on partnerships. She has co-produced the feature length documentary Dorpie World Premiere, IDFA Frontlight 2022 and 3rd place / special mention of the Encounters | Al-Jazeera Best Documentary Award at the 2023 edition of the Encounters South African International Documentary Film Festival; she is Executive Producer of Black Women Disrupt The Web, a transnational web series project with women in Brazil, Colombia, Kenya and South Africa and was producer in 2019 of eleven 24-minute short films by first time female directors for the National Film and Video Foundation of South Africa. She is a Durban Talent Campus alumnus (2013) and alumni of the Cinemart Producer’s Lab (IFFR, 2016). She has pitched at Cannes (2025), Venice (2024, 2022), IDFA (2022) and the Durban FilmMart’s Pitch and Finance Forum (2014, 2024). Her career highlights include acting as supervising producer of six immersive projects under the “Future Africa: Telling Stories, Building Words” XR Creator Grant Program funded by Meta, led by Africa No Filter, supported by Electric South and Imisi 3D with showcases in Nigeria and South Africa in October 2022. In 2021 she was selected as development executive trainee for the inaugural edition of the Realness episodic lab for African writers and development executives in partnership with Netflix. She has been a producer at Electric South and a mentor for the XR accelerator projects of the 7th edition of Digital Lab Africa, an incubation programme of Fak’ugesi, the AfricanDigital Innovation Festival. Her credits include executive producer roles on several VR experiences for Electric South, namely, Natalie’s Trifecta, South Africa, 2023, World Premiere IDFA DocLab and Winner of the Special Jury Award for Creative Technology; We Speak Their Names in Hushed Tones, Nigeria, 2024, World Premiere SXSW; VRChat World LETU: Frankie’s Story, Tanzania, 2023, World
