Mar. 2008 - Aug. 2013Assistant Team Leader and Senior Instructor in the following disciplines: Firearms Training (FTU), Operational Medicine (OPMED), and Defensive Tactics/Special Skills (SSB). Refinement of tactics training and equipment was continuous. As a result, duties included the development of new course curriculum, and the testing/evaluation of new equipment (weapons, ammunition, duty gear, uniforms, medical equipment, etc). Secondary duties as a Medic, Range Safety Officer (RSO). Responsible for groups of up to 60 personnel at a time, and for hundreds of thousands of dollars of U.S. Government equipment and weapons. This included security, transportation, and inventory. As an Instructor, a broad array of developed courses/curriculum made possible the training of: Basic Special Agent Training (BSAC), High Threat Environment Training (HTTC / HTOC), Basic Field Firearms Officer Course (BFFOC), Mobile Security Deployment (MSD) Teams, Foreign Affairs Counter Terrorism (FACT) training, and In-service/Requalification Weapons Training. In addition to State Department personnel, the training mission included Marine Security Guards (MSG) and personnel from other government agencies and foreign embassies. Firearms training included curriculum and qualification courses of fire for all State Department issued/approved weapons, from the Sig and Glock sidearms all the way up to the M2 Heavy Machinegun (HMG). The operational/emergency medicine curriculum came from the Johns Hopkins University Tactical Medicine Unit. This curriculum was inspired by Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), and included Live Tissue Training (LTT) and Cadaver lab training. Special Skills training included: Defensive Tactics, Room Entry, Small Unit Tactics, Land Navigation, Communications, Emergency Rope Operations, and Physical Fitness Training.
