Aug. 2023Stanton, California, United StatesA healthy pregnancy for all. Anyone who wishes to carry a baby gets prenatal services and if pregnancy diseases occur, we need to be able to treat them. As people, humanity, we are falling short in those categories. We do not provide services to all equally, not even in the United States, and even if we do, we are unable to treat even the most common pregnancy diseases. In my view as a human, a woman, and a businessperson, that is a failure and an opportunity. I am determined to turn this into a clear business opportunity because I believe that only by making it so, we can garner the necessary attention and funding to this topic. In my company ImmunoVENTion, I will develop a treatment for preeclampsia. The scientific basis for this treatment is widely known and I am confident that preeclampsia is a scientifically solvable problem. It won’t be easy, it won’t be fast, but I believe that it is possible. The question is whether I can allocate the support and funding necessary to execute such a daring endeavor: an autologous cell treatment in a pregnant woman. Other things have been tried, none have worked, not even close. Our current “treatment protocol” for this life-threatening disease that kills ~ 10500 infants every year in the US is bedrest. We have to do better than this!

Jul. 2018Santa Cruz, California, United StatesKnowledge is power! Do you know a disease modifying agent that does not impact the immune system? I thought so! Sometimes that impact is not as important and the drug performs as expected. But sometimes, and those are the times that I might be of help, sometimes you see "odd signals" that require interpretation by an immunologist such as myself. That immunologist still might not know the cause of said oddity but can probably, hopefully, formulate some next steps that can get you there if you so choose. And maybe provide a wild theory or two. I am, unfortunately, neither magician nor omniscient and thus I cannot in good conscience promise that I can solve your problem. However, I am a rather tenacious (German) individual and love a good scientific challenge. For me, working on a problem that nobody knows the answer to is the most exciting thing possible and the biology of our immune system the most fascinating topic I have ever encountered. How does an assembly of sugars, lipids, and proteins decide between foreign and self, dangerous and not dangerous on an ongoing basis in health and disease? I love this work! Knowledge is power is especially true when it comes to treating diseases. That is painfully clear in the field of pregnancy diseases where a general paucity of data increases the difficulty of providing treatment for even the most common diseases such as preeclampsia which is why I also started my other business, ImmunoVENtion. Please see the other business for this endeavor that is very close to my heart.

Apr. 2015 - Jan. 2019Pasadena, USAMy mission is to make a difference in patients’ lives. My particular interests are human vascular inflammatory diseases such as the hypertensive pregnancy disease preeclampsia, cardiovascular disease, and stroke. Clinical research is the key to understanding human physiology and I leverage teamwork and collaboration every day to address these problems.
