Jul. 2010 - Feb. 2017Johannesburg Area, South AfricaAs custodian of the corporate brand, I strategically lead all external communications (both traditional media relations as well as social / digital media), crisis communications and issues management, corporate brand marketing, influencer engagement / stakeholder management, responsible consumption campaigns and special beer culture projects. I was also part of the Centre of Excellence for SABMiller Africa and worked with the in country Corporate Affairs teams. Some highlights include the establishment of SAB's social media presence which has evolved into one of the leading global corporate digital eco-systems with engagement rates and cost effectiveness well ahead of the benchmark. I also pioneered a measurement and evaluation system as well as a social media framework and set of policies for the Group. I developed the blueprint for a revolutionary new way to measure, monitor and track reputation in real time using SABMiller’s award winning Global Digital Reporting Platform. I also developed and executed a hugely successful ‘beer culture’ strategy to grow the beer category, overcome beer’s negative reputation and promote beer as a drink of moderation. My passion for communications is matched by my need to make a difference. Throughout my career I have sought out projects that have meaning beyond shareholder returns and I am proud of the work I have done on this front. I conceptualised, launched and ran the 18+ #BeTheMentor campaign which achieved a 91% reduction in underage drinking amongst the control group by inspiring young adults to take on the role of mentor for their younger siblings. The campaign was named as one of the top six global TVCs. I developed a ground breaking, highly successful and internationally recognised underage drinking prevention programme (www.youdecide.org.za) and was instrumental in the set up and initial PR and fund raising efforts of SAB Boucher Conservation NPC which is involved in tackling the scourge of rhino poaching.

Jul. 2005 - Jun. 2010During my time at eBucks, I entrenched the brand positioning as South Africa’s leading rewards programme and most powerful virtual currency in the country through various achievements such as the launch of the FNB / PayPal initiative which received over R12 million of traditional media coverage and over 4000 social media mentions which was the record for a corporate announcement at the time. I was a key member of the eBucks Innovation Team that put the PayPal offering together. I initiated and implemented eBucks’ 'green' positioning as well as managed the carbon footprint calculations and offsets – eBucks was the world’s first carbon neutral rewards programme – together with Food and Trees for Africa. I also conceptualised and implemented the hugely successful eBucks Big Green Maze project which not only facilitated eBucks’ carbon neutrality, but also spread a message of environmental sustainability to millions of South Africans. I conceptualised and implemented the draw of the FNB / eBucks Space competition in which an ordinary South African woman won a trip to space which achieved massive media coverage and captured the imagination of all South Africans. And lastly, I initiated and implemented the internal communications project including research, behaviour surfacing, change management regarding the inclusion of the new discount layer and perception management of the exco team.
