As a Sports Dietitian I am helping to bring about change within the racing industry when it comes to nutrition and sports performance. At JN I work to educate not only athletes in Australia and internationally, but industry stakeholders so that incorrect nutrition information stops being propagated through the generations of jockeys. By putting a stop to it now will help jockeys implement science based nutrition information improving their health, mental health, performance and longevity of their careers. I work with Dr Brendan Ryan & Dr Carolyn Jameson, leading physicians in their field and a team of dietitians, physiotherapists, psychologists, administration staff and nurses. SBC was a cohesive multidisciplinary team across three locations, Westmead, Campbelltown and Penrith. My role as an Outpatient Dietitian was to oversee the diet upgrade post-operatively to help patients meet their nutrition needs through food, fluid and supplementation and minimise symptoms. Long-term patients experiencing weight regain would also be consulted. Bariatrics is an amazing option for those that require it, it is not just weight-loss surgery, it is a tool for many to initiate a lifestyle change.

With the supervision of Natalie Edwards (Dietitian) and Dr. Catherine Chojenta, myself and three other students performed a Needs Assessment on the existing 'Cooking for 1 or 2 Program', a project aimed at educating widows and veterans on basic cooking skills. The C1or2 program was developed by the Department of Veterans Affairs and our group was allowed to develop a strategy for its expansion as a DVD;'Cooking for 1 or 2 - DVD Expansion'. The DVD would allow veterans who were less mobile, whom didn't have transport or for alternate reasons couldn't attend the C1or2 cooking classes to still learn about basic cooking skills and nutrition. With the help of the Department of Gender, Health and Ageing, my team and I worked together to develop the new proposal, 'Cooking for 1 or 2 - DVD Expansion' in order to raise approximately $80,000 in funding. An exciting part of the project was our interaction with existing C1or2 veterans. They were excited to tell me how the C1or2 program has helped improve their quality of life both through nutrition and social interaction.
