Mar. 2007 - Mar. 2011Plymouth, Devon, United KingdomJoined 42 Commando during pre-deployment training, which consisted of Arctic warfare training, mountain training, a team medics course and relevant survival courses in preparation for the harsh environments in Afghanistan. Part of a small cohesive team of Royal Marines based in Kabul and Lashkargah. Tasked with the training of Afghanistan security forces, intelligence gathering, reassurance patrols and escorting VIPs such as Ross Kemp through hostile areas. Further tasks included, aggressive patrolling, regaining control of villages and towns from insurgents and winning hearts and minds of the locals. Second deployment to Iraq with 42 Commando involved security to the Iraqi Navy, training the Iraqi Navy in first aid, weapon handling, security patrols around the oil rigs and daily English lessons. Further tasks were, reassurance patrols into local towns, clearing main supply routes of Improvised explosive devices and integrating with the locals.
