Work Background
Test Engineer
FonterraTest Engineer
Oct. 2022 - Sep. 2023Auckland, New ZealandI have spent the last year doing manual functional and technical testing on a new, complex, internal-facing, customised third-party application that represents a profound shift in the working processes of almost all 23000 of Fonterra’s staff around the world. Now the product has gone into production, I am in the process of constructing an automated test framework to provide assurance across the busy release schedule for the next year.
Senior Test Engineer
Air New ZealandSenior Test Engineer
Apr. 2021 - Oct. 2022Auckland, New ZealandI worked on the Online Booking domain, developing stubbed and end-to-end tests with the established automation framework, which is Java and Selenium based. This was a wide-ranging area of the business, requiring a working knowledge of many technical areas of the software and the systems it runs upon. I also previously worked with the core API team developing automated tests for system and experience layer APIs connected to Air New Zealand's core reservation and departure systems. Air NZ has a large suite of small- to medium-function APIs for which I was developing component and contract tests using a Java framework.
Senior Test Automation Engineer
TTCSenior Test Automation Engineer
Nov. 2019 - Mar. 2021Auckland, New ZealandThis role consisted of Open Source test automation frameworks, sprint-based project work, technical consultancy and capability review. Primarily on placement at two major Auckland and New Zealand utilities.
Senior Test Automation Engineer
Ministry of Business, Innovation and EmploymentSenior Test Automation Engineer
Feb. 2018 - Nov. 2019Auckland, New ZealandAt MBIE (Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment) I worked on a major replacement project for some of the Business Registry’s core activities. This was a high-profile project using external vendors, but where Quality Assurance was so mission-critical that UAT testing was considered a primary activity internally. While developing an extensive automation suite, I was also responsible for data migration and API testing. As a technical tester, it is my pleasure to be able to bring a broad range of skills to the capability. The toolset was Java/Selenium for automation, and I introduced Selenide to the broader team as part of an effort to make the automation development environment simpler, less local and more Enterprise-ready. In addition I used Ready API with Java-scripted assertions for API testing and direct database examination for Data Migration testing. On 27th October 2018 we powered-up Release 1 of the New Zealand Business Registers platform, and Release 2A went live in August 2019.
Test Automation Engineer
FonterraTest Automation Engineer
Nov. 2017 - Feb. 2018Auckland, New ZealandI was brought into Fonterra with a view to extending a test framework for the FarmSource program, initially focussed on developing a comprehensive BAU test suite. The objectives were to free-up manual tester time by covering as much regression testing as possible, speed up release testing by migrating legacy automation to a more service-layer oriented environment, and to improve the quality of testing in depth. The framework used Java with Selenium and Selenide. The primary data repository was Salesforce, and Salesforce API requests were central to the approach.
Senior Test Analyst
Chorus NZ LimitedSenior Test Analyst
Dec. 2016 - Nov. 2017Auckland, New ZealandChorus was developing an API channel to bring various value-added tools into scope for Telcos, Sercos and end customers. This was a big-ticket item in Chorus’ Competitive Response roadmap. I was the lead tester on the project, a role that was focussed on API testing and some automation. Assertion scripting was complex for this project, and I was a key player in establishing standards, procedures and protocols for future work in this new environment. My main tool for this work was SOAPUI NG Pro, using Java/Groovy as the scripting environment. This type of work was new to Chorus, and I had to be very self-reliant and self-motivated in a business environment that has lacked support or infrastructure for small agile project teams using SCRUM. My work, attention to detail, and ability to think ahead was highly praised by those involved in the project, as was my willingness to step outside of my core role and act as an SME and provide added value wherever possible.

Mitre 10 (New Zealand) LimitedTest Automation Engineer
Aug. 2016 - Dec. 2016Auckland, New ZealandThis role involved completing front-end automation for a new trade-oriented portal, working in Java and automating with Selenium WebDriver using the Selenide wrapper. The framework used cucumber for test definition. I created over 400 individual tests, which included, in addition to the usual web tests, validations for PDF and CSV exports, invoice management and other complex functionality. Achievements: - Engaged with an in-flight automated testing effort making use of a complex testing framework - Extended my Java programing skills considerably.
Technical and Automation Engineer
Ports of AucklandTechnical and Automation Engineer
Jul. 2013 - Jul. 2016Mechanics Bay, AucklandJuly 2015 saw the roll-out of Ports of Auckland’s new real-time Terminal Operating System (TOS) which replaced a 20-year old legacy system with a new Java-based core product. The big-bang deployment relied on a solid automation suite that included data migration, regression and performance testing. There were 2 automation testers in a team of 8 testers on the project. Post-launch I expanded and maintained the existing test suite, dealt with changes and new features, and also developed a billing test suite. - Developed a robust and fine-detailed automated test suite for data-migration - Designed automated tests for migration of multiple existing systems into the new TOS - Developed automated regression test suites - SOAP-layer performance testing Achievements: - The project go-live was smooth and remarkably problem-free. Automation was recognized as a key contributor to the upgrade, so much so that almost a year after go-live, automation was still regarded as a key project capability.
