Nova Southeastern UniversityAssistant Director of Experiential Education
Jul. 2017 - Jun. 2021Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United StatesIn the initial development phase of the ExEL program, the Director and I worked to promote and integrate Experiential Education into the culture of NSU, with the goal to provide each undergraduate student an "edge" upon graduation. I collaborated with faculty and staff to implement the principles of experiential education into academic coursework and co-curricular opportunities. These opportunities provide students with hands on relevant experiences that foster holistic development and critical thinking, through authentic and immersive opportunities. After a successful launch and implementation, I focused on program operations such as maintaining our budget, data management, assessment, training and development and program integrity. As a practicum student, the director and I developed the Early Immersion Program, which provided all first year students a hands on opportunity in a career field of their choice, facilitating deeper understanding of their chosen career field or an opportunity to explore a new one. Once hired as the Assistant Director, I managed this program, expanding it from 30 to over 120 events per semester, serving a total of 1,500 students. In fall 2018, I developed and launched the Peer Leader Program, which was integrated into the First-Year Experience (FYE) course. Each year I train and supervise ~90 Peer Leaders to provide first time students guidance and support in their transition to college, serving as a resource, mentor and role model to their success at NSU. Additionally, I train FYE course instructors on student development and how to work with Peer Leaders in the classroom in order to facilitate their professional and personal growth as leaders on campus.
