Working closely with bipartisan legislators to promote the bill. Embedded within local non-profit Conservation Minnesota and raised funding through a corporate sponsor. In collaboration with the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota and the local civil engineering firm Alta Planning + Design, we petitioned the Hennepin County government to temporarily close part of an iconic Minneapolis street (Lyndale Avenue) to traffic. The purpose was to create a safe environment for cyclists to ride on the road, as biking on sidewalks is not permitted. This initiative aimed to help riders gain confidence cycling on a ~1.5-mile stretch of Lyndale without the dangers of traffic. What began as a single event has since expanded to four different streets and dates, evolving into a bicycle-friendly community street fair featuring music, art, games, food, and shopping. These events continue to close ~1.5 miles of iconic Minneapolis roadways, allowing cyclists to comfortably and safely ride on the streets without the presence of vehicles.
