Public Services Participates in the delivery of library services, including reference, information services and orientation, and instruction. Participates in maintaining and developing Aboriginal content for teaching and research, including but not limited to the branch website, user guides, and collections in repositories - such as cIRcle. Makes recommendations on the application of current and emerging technologies for scholarship and public services. Assists with the assessment of public services and programs at Xwi7xwa Library and IKBLC. Liaison, Outreach and Community Engagement Liaises with assigned academic departments that deliver Aboriginal content and in so doing initiates and leads change to enhance the value of the Library as a partner in research and scholarship. Works closely with UBC librarians and student services units that support Aboriginal students and scholarship, such as the IKBLC (Chapman Learning Commons) and the First Nations House of Learning. Collaborates with branch libraries in developing Aboriginal library and information services, including support for Aboriginal scholarship, cross cultural education, and related areas. Participates in campus and community engagement activities in support of the First Nations House of Learning, UBC Library and IKBLC. Communications Participates in developing and maintaining an effective, current media presence - including social media, branch website, digital signage and promotional and community outreach materials. Collections Development Liaises with potential contributors to the UBC Library digital collections and helps identify digitization candidates. Participates in work associated with the application of Xwi7xwa Aboriginal metadata to develop culturally appropriate representation of Aboriginal content and Aboriginal scholarship.

May. 2010 - Aug. 2011Based in the Information Services Division at the Stanley A. Milner library, responsibilities encompassed the provision of system-wide leadership of Aboriginal services. The Community Led-Service Philosophy helped guide the provision of services, which included consulting and engaging with community partners to plan and implement programs and develop policy recommendations in response to identified needs. Responsibilities also included reference and membership services, system-wide programming, liaison duties with the Aboriginal Services Team and the Aboriginal Advisory Group, collection development and maintenance, web content development for the Aboriginal Peoples page (https://www.epl.ca/aboriginal), assessment activities for evaluating programs and services, and provision of readers’ advisory. Two Reference Assistants assisted with these duties and were supervised. This position was responsible for a collection development budget and an Aboriginal Services Team budget (programming, marketing, and staff awareness training).

Summer Programmer: Children responsibilities: promote and implement Summer Reading Club, visit classes throughout the school district elementary schools to present flyers and visuals for the program, design a Dragon boat race themed “kick-off” event, tell stories and prepare craft supplies, and participate in weekly children’s programs. Teen responsibilities: to implement a teen volunteer club, host a teen event night, and recruit teen volunteers for three committees: Reading Buddies, Internet Club, and Event Committee. Reading Buddies required scheduling volunteers with a child reading buddy each day. The Internet Club required booking the computer lab, instruction on web page design using Microsoft Front Page, and the encouragement of creative input for the library’s teen page of the website. The Teen Event Committee required scheduling brainstorming sessions for a Teen Event at the end of the summer.
