Jan. 2014 - Mar. 2022Greater New York City AreaIn 2014, Instagram was a novel platform, Shopify was unheard of, and jewelry, for the most part, was unbranded and not available for purchase online. The entire industry operated on consignment, in a fragmented, inefficient, and tech-averse landscape. I foresaw that the future would belong to brands, with an increasing trend towards online shopping. Swoonery was my solution—an omni-channel experience featuring over 85 of the world's top jewelry brands We launched a drop-ship, luxury marketplace after the friends and family round. In the subsequent round, we opened a retail location and grew, trained, and led a team of merchandisers, sales associates, customer service professionals, marketers, and developers. We introduced a new model to the industry and successfully transitioned luxury jewelry into the digital realm while reducing inventory costs for brands and maintaining our retailer margins without inventory costs. Our mission was to provide customers with access to impeccably crafted pieces across a comprehensive range of styles and sizes on a single platform by showcasing the world's most coveted jewelry designers and brands. We had a retail store on 5th Avenue and replicated the personalized, high-touch shopping experience online through a contextual recommendation algorithm tailored specifically for luxury products. This algorithm constructed a style profile for each customer, offering personalized product recommendations based on their aesthetic preferences, and our client care team was on hand to give clients a white-glove before and after-sale experience on demand. It gives me great satisfaction to observe that many of the brands that made their debut online through Swoonery now constitute some of the most popular designer brands in the industry. These include names such as Foundrae, Stephen Webster, Sydney Evan, Katherine Jetter, Walters Faith, Sylvia Furmanovich, Bea Bongiascia, Melissa Kaye, Buddha Mamma, Elie Top, Bee Goddess, and more.
