City of Coquille Project Manager
Oct. 2013 - Nov. 2014Coquille, Oregon, United StatesAs part of my Eagle Scout project in the former Boy Scouts of America (BSA), I chose to lead a small-scale landscaping endeavor for the City of Coquille's river walk trail. This project involved putting down topsoil, agricultural fabric, and mulch along a 175-foot section of unkept turf alongside the trail. Furthermore, a variety of native plants were installed, as well as small aluminum signs displaying both the Latin and common names of each plant. I was responsible for all aspects of the project, including preliminary planning and research, purchase and delivery of all materials, recruitment and supervision of a workforce, and obtaining all necessary funding. I met with a local plant architect to discuss appropriate selections of native shrubbery, and calculated how far apart to plant each specimen so as not to result in crowding together as the plants grew to maturity. I also attended a city council meeting and successfully pitched my project idea to the board members resulting in their unanimously agreeing to fund the approximately $2,000 project. In total, this endeavor took me roughly one year to carry out and complete, from initial inspection and research all the way to supervising the final installments of the small aluminum markers. The result was a significant visual improvement to the City of Coquille's river walk trail, making it a much more attractive destination for locals and tourists alike.
