Assisted client with extreme data-center makeover involving refresh of all hardware, software, network, storage and data center work-flows. The new greenfield design included server rightsizing to more efficient 1U units, upgrading to 10GB converged networking and upgrading to Hybrid-flash storage. Selected data was replicated to Amazon S3 storage. Newly added resource pools for each tenant workload now ensure tenant isolation. Anti-virus scanning was moved outside the production VM using VMware introspection services for even greater performance. Storage latency was reduced to 2ms average for production workloads. This resulted in 300% improvement in 3-tier webserver performance. IT staff was re-trained on maintaining resource pool isolation in production and proper use of template customization. These design changes resulted in saving $250k over the previous non-optimized design, by reallocating money from over-sized hosts towards better storage and networking. The redesign also won praise from the clients Fortune 100 tenant for the improved performance and adherence to tight SLA's during the transition to the new DC.
