With a 15 person team of developers the level of effort that is produced on a daily basis is in direct support of the applications and databases needed to manage the fish and wildlife program, this support includes the information systems needed to ensure the health and wellness of the State of Iowa forests and prairies, and recreational opportunities in Iowa’s state parks. Just as importantly, my team collaboratively works with the DNR community to carry out state and federal laws as it applies to permitting and compliance programs that protect air, land and water through innovative technical solutions. My primary job duties focus on ensuring that the data needed to meet and enforce these standards is current, a source of truth and available for combination of 95 applications and databases that support 1000 plus DNR employees, throughout 15 Bureau’s across the State of Iowa. I currently oversee 15 full time employees and 6 contractors this oversight would include overseeing the health and reliability of all systems, new and corrective application and database development. Primary application programming languages are built on C#, databases SQL, Oracle other technological tools: JQuery, DNN, Java, ASP, VB, Web forms, .NET, MVC and Entity Framework. Improving operation readiness the approach: Remodeling the staffing and application development model from the traditional SDLC to Agile SCRUM implementing new concepts like test driven development, peer partnering, quality assurance automation, and automation in the Dev. Ops arena. That will result in decreasing the margin of error of code to production by 65% and increase the product availability to our customers by 50%. Further this model will assist in decreasing our outsourcing development contract cost by 35%.
