I am a newly-fledged acquisition entrepreneur after 10 years in investing roles in Public Markets. I spent 8 years working as a generalist buy-side investment analyst at a boutique asset manager, NorthStar Asset Management, in Cape Town South Africa. The organization had a flat corporate structure when I was there allowing for increased responsibilities at a young age. I was involved in building financial models, researching, developing, and presenting investment theses to an investment committee, engaging with clients, and writing investment content for public consumption. After that, I spent 2 years as a partner with RealFin Capital Partners as Head of Global Investment Strategy. I was responsible for oversight of the investment process, liaising with the CEO and CFO weekly on strategy, managing the absolute return portion of the portfolio, and engaging with clients on investment-related matters.

I performed asset allocation analysis as well as making asset allocation calls for the GMAP core portfolio (80% of assets). I was responsible for idea generation, research, and portfolio management of investment positions in satellite portion of the GMAP which made up 20% of the portfolio and had an absolute return mandate. I was also responsible for monitoring and maintenance of all financial modelling, investment post-mortem analysis on all investments, as well as oversight of investment marketing materials and investor correspondence on the satellite portfolio. I was responsible for new product development for off-model clients.

Jan. 2014 - Jul. 2021Cape Town, Western Cape, South AfricaIn this role I was responsible for idea generation as well as shallow dives on innumerous global and domestic companies with the goal of finding companies that could be fully researched and that would eventually make it into the portfolio. I generated comprehensive research reports and financial models on over 45 domestic and offshore companies and was responsible for investing in 22 companies (these made it into the portfolio) over 7 years. I was part of the investment committee and therefore voted and scored all global and domestic investments with an equal weight to that of the CIO. I was also responsible for maintaining financial models and research on portfolio companies as well as finding actionable intelligence on any portfolio and watchlist companies.
