Jan. 2001 - Nov. 2022Vancouver, British Columbia, CanadaAs a visual artist with extensive experience in various kinds of creation, it is difficult to judge when exactly I started my artistic journey. I have a bachelor’s degree from PUC-Rio in Humanities, specializing in Social Communication and focusing on Film Studies (which is more or less the equivalent of having had a major in Communication and a minor in Film Studies). During adolescence, I participated in two animated short movies, which aroused his interest in audiovisuals. She was part of several university shorts as an art director and art designer. In 2011, I participated in the academic extension program at Kansai Gaidai University, Japan, specializing in Asian Studies, where I learned Sumi-e techniques and traditional ceramics, in addition to participating in the university's photography group. I have experience in the development and production of audiovisual and visual arts projects. I took several courses at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, in addition to having worked as an assistant curator and assistant for cultural production. I participated in exhibitions in Japan, Parque Lage, PUC-Rio, Paço Imperial, as well as several independent collectives. I took a master's degree from PUC-Rio, through the Postgraduate Program in Communication, researched the expression of violence through symbolic figures, such as the samurai, and analyzed the film “Kagemusha”, by Akira Kurosawa, as an example. Since 2016 I have been actively producing creative content for social media. That same year I had cancer and produced a poetic and illustrated diary of the chemotherapy treatment. I currently work mainly as a tattoo artist and maintain the website www.maritanaquasresma.ca and the Instagram and TikTok accounts @maritana.tattoo.

Houses don't speak, but they can express themselves very eloquently, and that was the challenge I proposed when building their business's branding: the idea was to give voice to vacation rental houses so that guests could experience a little of their stories. All the marketing strategies were based on storytelling. They all had names (and often even nicknames); aesthetic preferences (Edith’s favourite colour, for example, has always been pink); favourite trees (Ruth is crazy about her jaboticaba’s tree); favourite authors (although they were all fans of Clarice Lispector); some preferred to host children, others preferred to host groups of friends; some were more affordable, while others were more demanding and charged more (oh, folks, you have no idea how much costed Rachel’s maintenance...); but definitely what they all have in common is how much they all brought me so much happiness and the best memories! For 5 years I managed up to 9 properties in Ilha Grande, Brazil, among which I also owned 3. I planned the marketing strategies to be used on Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking and Instagram; collected payments and recorded data about funds and expenditures; participated in financial activities, such as the setting of room rates, the establishment of budgets and allocation of funds to departments; decorated all the environments and was responsible for keeping them always up to date, modern, and well maintained; was responsible for keeping the cleaning schedule and having good communication with all the cleaning crew; inspected guest rooms, public areas and grounds for cleanliness and appearance; conferred and cooperated with other managers to ensure coordination of lodge activities; developed and implemented policies and procedures for operation of department and establishment services, and resolve occupants' complaints; and purchased supplies, arranged for outside services, such as maintenance and repair.
