As part of my Internship, I work at the laboratory of the refinery, conducting quality control tests across an extensive spectrum of petrochemical products and by-products. Part of the daily routine is also to take samples, liquid or gaseous fuels, following standard sampling procedures and performing the necessary analysis. We used Sample Manager software for all our data analysis; the spectrum of analysis performed varies, including among others, coulometric titration, Karl Fischer, water content, distillation, refractive index, aniline point, flash point and Sulphur x-ray. Typical duties include (but not be limited to): - Provide support to refinery operations via the analysis of samples from refinery rundown/ intermediate streams for process monitoring / troubleshooting. - Provide support to refinery operations via the analysis of component/ product tank samples for blending/ product release purpose. - Use laboratory information management system (LIMS) for data entry and sample handling. - Use and track standard quality control (SQC) program to prevent release of out-of-control data. - Track and monitor all instruments to confirm they are within proper SQC. - Report and help investigate out-of-control SQC incidents. - Perform basic routine instrument maintenance and calibration.
