EDS, UxbridgeDatacentre engineer
Jan. 2005 - Feb. 2005Working in a datacentre environment, I monitored and hands-on worked with cabling structures (Cat V, Fibre Optic, etc) and plans, corridor temperatures, basic server maintenance and covered shifts to ensure all machines worked smoothly and to liaise with outsourced engineers. Police databases on site meant I had to apply for a security clearance level to work here. This was not a long term contract and despite the datacentre practises gained here I moved on as it didn't utilise a large percentage of my skillset. Rackspace Managed Hosting, Uxbridge
February 2004 - December 2004 ITIS UK (entire department) I essentially worked as the only IT person for about 60 people, comprising 100% of the internal IT support (and many areas not in the original job description). I was responsible for desktops, the internal servers, permissions and shares, Goldmine, Navision, upper network topologies and securities, phone system (IP/digital), outsourced exchange provider and all email issues, MSDN ownership, 1st to 3rd line user support, inter company liaison for services (eg ISDN phone lines, HQ building tech repairs), inter-office security (network cameras), introducing new starters to the systems, database maintenance, the entire UK side backup schedule, & the entire domain. I built the domain up and redesigned the phone system, patched two office wings, set up conferencing pcs, organised the licensing, liaise with my US counterparts, and anything else that was required. All of my former skills were brought into play, and I learned many more new ones. I also set up people's signs and furniture, liaised to get office features fixed, generated reports for people on various statistics and health checks on servers, and set up a secure WAP for the laptops. I also enforced quotas, policies, and so forth, and served as the immediate on call for any issues raised.
