Jul. 2011 - Oct. 2013Virgin Islands (U.S.)• Served as a member of the state team and is responsible for the development and implementation of AARP’s presence in communities. •Worked in collaboration with community agencies, non-profit organizations and the business community. •Developed and implemented activities related to strategic priorities in communities, including education/learning activity opportunities, and various consumer, health, or economic security issues. • Organized and maintained visible and effective statewide coalitions and partnerships dealing with strategic issues. • Worked with national office staff to promote AARP’s strategic issues and priorities, programs, and activities. •Facilitated interaction and communication with national office issue experts to provide technical assistance and ensured the proper resources are available for staff and volunteers, including issue material, talking points, updates and briefing material. •Developed and implemented AARP integrated community and communications strategies. •Performed communications functions, including basic promotion of AARP,news releases, media advisories,assistance with advocacy campaigns, webplace and newsletter coordination. •Made presentations at workshops and conferences as appropriate. •Worked with statewide volunteers on primary issues,community service concerns, as well as support for legislative efforts with education backing on other issues as needed. •Coordinated and provided assistance in responding to the media on strategic issues; Serve as the media spokesperson, article writer, or technical expert (social media) to enhance media awareness in the state. •Ensured AARP is seen as a visible force in community service and public policy development by educating staff, volunteers, members, government and elected officials, and the public. •Worked with national office staff to promote AARP’s strategic issues and priorities, programs, and activities,and to position AARP with the media in the states.
