Rafael Aroca holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Master's in Mechanical Engineering. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) (USA) and published more than 80 scientific papers, several books and invented several patented technologies. Advised more than 60 students (doctorate/master/graduation) and received more than 20 awards/honors/prizes during his scientific career. Rafael is the creator and maintainer of BIPES project, used in more than 100 countries by more than 30 thousand users, and has been involved with the organization of the Brazilian Robotics Olympiad (OBR), since 2007, which has already had about 1 million participants throughout Brazil. He was also a member of the Superior Council of OBR and General Coordinator of OBR at the National Level. Rafael is also the creator and general coordinator of the Brazilian Satellite Olympiad (OBSAT) and helped create the Brazilian Semiconductor Olympiad (OBCHIP) to the Brazilian Minister of Science and Technology as a service provided by von Braun Labs. He was the Executive Director of the Innovation Agency at the Federal University of Sao Carlos - Sao Paulo and helped create the EMBRAPII Industry Innovation Unit. He has been also manager of the IT startup incubator at Natal-RN and helped create several startup companies. Rafael has also been Ph.D. and master's advisor at the University of São Paulo (the best Brazilian University) and also at UFSCar, where he is a volunteer professor today.
