Vibeke Halkjaer-Knudsen is an internationally recognized and certified Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP) and Senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) in biosafety, biosecurity, and chemical risk management, with extensive experience leading complex, multi-country technical projects. Her career spans the design, upgrading, and operational assurance of high-containment facilities, including BSL2, BSL3, and BSL4 laboratories, with a focus on integrating engineering solutions, operational workflows, and regulatory compliance into coherent, sustainable systems.
Her work has included detailed facility and system gap analyses, biological and chemical risk assessments, and the development of design rationales for both new-builds and upgraded laboratory facilities. She has overseen engineering reviews, commissioning protocol development, utility system risk mapping, and operational readiness evaluations, ensuring that facilities meet or exceed international safety and performance standards.
Across many of these projects, Vibeke has worked in close partnership with Raymond Nance, whose combined expertise in project management, scientific engineering coordination, and complex utility systems has been a cornerstone of successful delivery. Drawing on his background during his WIPP (waste Isolation Pilot Plant, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) facility in Carlsbad, New Mexico, USA) years, with engineering disciplines and years of high-level project leadership, Ray has contributed to the seamless integration of critical infrastructure, redundancy planning, and technical workflows.
In addition to his engineering and project leadership roles, Ray has been instrumental in curriculum design and development for Vipsit’s Biorisk Management (BRM) training programs, creating structured, standards-aligned learning for technical staff, laboratory managers, and leadership teams.
