Daniel Harris Rosen is a bilingual creative director based in Tokyo, with over 30 years of experience in the Japanese arts scene. Originally a visual artist himself, he has also worked as a curator, VJ, video director, and art writer for The Japan Times & other esteemed media outlets. In the late 90s, Daniel worked closely with the internationally renowned taiko performing arts ensemble Kodo, serving first as a producer for their annual music festival Earth Celebration, and later as a road manager and press liaison while touring with the group across Japan, Europe and the United States. His experience with Kodo provided him both a rigorous education in arts management, as well as the inspiration he needed to finally take his own artistic endeavors seriously. In 2000 he began his formal studies in art at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and went on to earn both an MFA and PhD in fine arts at Tama Art University in Tokyo. In 2006 while still a student, he joined the nascent artist collective Rinpa Eshidan which exploded into an Internet sensation, garnering over 140 million collective hits on YouTube. Through his time with Rinpa Eshidan, he gained experience handling commercial work from corporate clients such as NHK, YouTube, MINI Cooper, and McDonalds Japan. Meanwhile, Daniel also pursued his own artistic career in contemporary art, exhibiting his artwork worldwide at venues including the Honolulu Museum of Fine Art and Art Fair Taipei. In 2010 Daniel began using the name TokyoDex as an umbrella for all of his artistic endeavors, and TokyoDex was incorporated two years later as an LLC in 2012. Daniel’s creative vision, extensive network in the Japanese art community, understanding of the Japanese culture and international standards of business make him a highly sought creative director for exciting art-based projects in Tokyo and around the globe. Noted clients include Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Keio University, Google, GREE, EY Japan, Sapporo Beer and the Embassy of Germany in Japan.More...
