Tove Jaarnek – Biography
It is neither possible to place Tove in a compartment nor to predict the next musical step. Tove and her music stir a pot full of all the ingredients of life after more than 40 years as an artist. She has drawn inspiration from growing up in north of Sweden and from collaborations with several of the Swedish artistic elite. Regardless of whether the music was acoustic, produced or in a duet, Tove's characteristic voice has brought out strong melodies and spread joy.
Tove´s career as an artist began when she was just eight years old in the choir “Frösöflickorna”, and she started her professional career as a singer in a dance band at the age of 13. Tove furthered her education at “Stage School" in Gothenburg and participated in the musical “Just Married”.
Tove got a label contract with Sony after winning the competition “Star-90”. She performed “Un Estate Italiana” at a live TV gala in connection with the World Cup in Football. In the same year she earned third place in the Baltic Song Festival amongst a field of competitors from around the globe.
In 1991, Tove entered the annual competition organized by Swedish Public Broadcasting, “Melodifestivalen”, with “Ett liv med dig”. The song was on the Swedish top charts for ten weeks. Following this, Tove appeared in several TV shows including concerts with international stars such as Michael Bolton.
The following year, Tove was commissioned by the Swedish Football Association to perform, as well as record, the official European Championships theme song “More Than a Game”. She performed the song live at the grand opening together with Peter Jöback.
Tove made TV appearances all over Europe. She earned the honorary field artist assignment and performed in Lebanon, the former Yugoslavia, and Israel for the Swedish UN-troops.
Tove did receive the Ulla Billqvist award in 1993 with the recognition: “For her ability to perform various genres of popular music in a personal way with a comprehensive voice and outstanding vocal range.”
