My professional education career spanned several institutions, including a non-profit teaching adults to read, community college, a drug/alcohol treatment program, private counseling practice, and both faculty and administrative posts in higher education. I have extensive experience in the writing and management of grants, including grants from DoD, DoE, MS Community College Board, MS Department of Military, and several smaller private foundations.
At the Univ. of Southern MS, I worked as the Director of the Distance Learning program, helped to identify & develop online programs and degrees, and do faculty training in course development. I also wrote and administered a federal grant to increase the quantity and use of various technologies in the classrooms over a 5 year period, earning me the University Teaching Advocate Award. In Arts & Letters, I worked with faculty to develop their research agendas and realize external funding for those agendas. I co-led, with an associate dean colleague, the advisement of the University's Undeclared Majors students, with the goal of creating an advisement practice that would move students into majors and creating a path to graduation, thus reducing the number of undeclared majors dramatically. I also assisted in the design and development of a new degree, Interdisciplinary Studies, where I served as faculty, advisor and mentor.More...
