Late 1960s. Worked as part-time TV reporter at a commercial TV Station, while attending school full-time and running a campus TV news operation.
Early 1970s. As News Director in a 3-station TV market, built a department that garnered nearly two-thirds of all viewers.
Mid 1970s. Created a nationally recognized public television facility, helping win grants from National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities. Built a 40-member student staff and produced programs featuring symphony, ballet, playwright Edward Albee, Broadway producer Jerry Herman, Houston Grand Opera music director John Demain, actor Martin Balsam, author Studs Terkel, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, as well as Hank Aarron and Dr. Jonas Salk.
Late 1970s & early 1980s. Started a video/marketing/political consultancy. In next 5 years, handled projects for HBO, Entertainment Tonight and corporate clients, such as General Motors, American Airlines precursor USAirways and Frito-Lay.
Named regional Outstanding Small Businessperson. Awarded U.S. Small Business Administration honor for “Innovation.”
Late 1980s to 1997. Joined CIGNA – the nation’s 5th largest health insurer -- rising to the number 2 communications/public affairs post. Handled message development for public policy issues in Washington and state capitals. As one assignment, managed a $2 million national health care teleconference, hosted by CBS 60 Minutes Anchor Leslie Stahl.
1997 to present. Upon moving to Pawleys Island, started a Health Care Marketing Practice at LHWH Advertising, adding millions of dollars of revenue to the agency. Clients include hospitals in the Carolinas as well as Chicago, Stamford (CT), Orlando and Cape Coral (FL). In 2004, left LHWH for fulltime consulting for healthcare marketing clients.
2022. Retired from full-time consulting. Currently providing project/grant assistance for McLeod Health and TheMore...
