Dr. Daniel Jacobus Kocks is a medical doctor and general practitioner at The Cedars Cape Manor House, a rehabilitation center in Plumstead, Western Cape, South Africa. He is passionate about supporting patients with substance use disorders and eating disorders, offering compassionate care tailored to each individual’s journey toward recovery.
Dr. Kocks earned his MBChB from the University of Limpopo (formerly MEDUNSA, now Sefako Makgatho University). His professional certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and a Medicine Dispensing License. Additionally, he has completed Basic Accredited Certified Counselor (BACC) training through the Addiction Counsellors Certification South Africa (ACCSA).
During his two years of medical internship at King Edward Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal, Dr. Kocks served on the internship committee, supporting his peers and ensuring smooth operations. His internship coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, where he served on the COVID committee, assisting with clinic setups and staff rosters. He completed his family medicine rotation at Wentworth Hospital, where he worked closely with social workers to establish substance abuse programs. During his community service year at Andries Vosloo Hospital in the Eastern Cape, he continued this work, collaborating with social workers to create initiatives to help patients achieve sobriety.
Currently, Dr. Kocks serves as the medical doctor at The Cedars while training to become an addiction counselor. In 2025, he will pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Addiction Care at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and a Diploma in Mental Health from the College of Psychiatrists of South Africa. He is also continuing his Internationally Accredited Certified Counselor (IACC) training with ACCSA and is a member of the South African Society of Occupational Medicine (SASOM).
