Azahara Martín-Ortega has been a contributor to the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo since 2016. A journalist with postgraduate studies, she is a screenwriter trained at the University of Málaga, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos I and ECAM (Madrid), and also holds a degree in criminology from UNED (Madrid). She has worked as a researcher on fiction series projects for O2 Filmes and Damasco Filmes, as well as on advertising productions for brands such as C6 Bank and Nike, among others.
As a script assistant, she participated in the development of the Berlinale-awarded feature film Meu Nome é Bagdá, by Caru Alves (Manjericão Filmes), and the TV program Decora, from the GNT channel. She was twice a finalist at the NotodofilmFest short film festival, collaborated on the development of the documentary O Antes e o Depois, by João Wainer, and is one of the writers of the thriller series Últimas Férias, from Star+.
Her feature script in development Todas Nossas Cinzas, a psychological noir thriller, was evaluated by the U.S. consultancy Coverage Ink, which highlighted its disturbing atmosphere and the complexity of its protagonist, comparing some passages to the film Repulsion, by Roman Polanski. The report described her work as that of a writer with a “powerful voice and great psychological depth,” and emphasized her talent as an emerging screenwriter.
