Richard is a multi-award winning Senior Academic in Games, Media and Computing. He is also the current Global Regional Coordinator and Executive Committee member for Global Game Jam where he is responsible for strategic management and support of more than 800 sites across 100+ countries annually.
With over 23 years experience as an academic and free-lance developer, he is the founder and Director of Games Talent Wales; the first Welsh nationally funded game talent development programme, specialising in supporting new and pre-existing game start-ups with funding and business development opportunities. Under his leadership, the programme has helped to create and support over 40 independent studios with more £450,000 investment into the Welsh grass-roots indie games sector.
Richard is a full BAFTA Games member, and is also the Tranzfuser Local Hub Coordinator for North Wales (based at WU) where he established the Level Up Wales initiative which has grown to become the most successful business accelerators and game industry partnership programmes in Wales.
His primary research interests involve the use of game technology within education in addition to the practicalities of game development such as production management, optimisation of graphical rendering, immersive game design and artificial intelligence systems for games.More...
