I used to think that only big things really made a difference ; but that is the farthest thing from the truth! Never underestimate the value of a hand-written note, the extra phone call to follow up, or remembering a birthday. The connection to others matters; it's how we build community. Through my volunteer work, I have had the opportunity to develop marketing plans and coordinate event planning--which is something I truly enjoy. Being a member of various volunteer boards has helped me evolve in my leadership and management styles. It is absolutely true that my volunteer work has enriched my professional life in ways I could not have imagined, and is something I encourage people to take on for themselves.
