I have always been an animal person. The first animal rescue I remember doing was defending a horse when I was four. My second rescue was of a wet, bedraggled butterfly on the beach. I gently carried it away from the incoming waves, placed it on some bushes well above high-tide, and watched over it until it was dry and able to fly. Spending time with animals and learning about their behavior has always enchanted me.
With degrees including Psychology and Zoology, my focus has been on animal behavior and wildlife habitats. My abiding love of animals and the environment has led me to work as a wildlife rescue-and-rehabilitator, veterinary assistant, geologic surveyor, wetland steward, and photographer.
These days I pour my passion into wildlife photography. Through many wonderful wildlife explorations, my photographic interests have expanded to include travel, earth’s naturescapes, flowers, ships and maritime photography, and creative art photography.
I love taking pictures of intriguing subjects in places as close as the backyard and the grocery store and as far away as Barrow, Alaska; the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia; Iceland; the Aran Islands in Ireland; Moorea, Tahiti; and Kruger National Park in South Africa. Along the way, I have learned to see the beauty around me, and it is my hope to share it with others through my photographs.
In the world we live in today, it is important to take the time to find beauty in every day. Slow down. Take a walk. Look around you. Notice the small moments – like the ray of sunlight coming through the trees, the shapes of the clouds in the sky, the tiny mushrooms growing at the base of the tree, the sparkle in the eyes of the grandmother sitting across from you on the bus, the smell of lilacs blooming in the spring, the sound of laughter in the playground.
I wish for a world that lives in peace, where people have enough to eat and homes to shelter them, where differences are viewed as a good thing, and where wild animals, forests, and wilderness lovers can thrive in their natMore...
