We eat at least three times a day, which can often feel like three servings of guilt, shame, and heavy decisions. To unpin one’s plate from the negative feelings of eating is to offer oneself three (or more) plates of joy, abundance, and balance.
Through my lived experience of living one life on camera with celebrated dishes and another of literally eating my feelings, I became curious about the emotions, patterns, and beliefs that shape how we feed ourselves.
I celebrate with food, I wallow with food, and I have experienced the shame and guilt associated with unchallenged rules about what, when, and why I eat. Since becoming aware of my behaviour, I have found a freedom in the way I engage with food, and it has brought back the joy I once found in the humble plates I prepared for myself.
A decade ago, my life changed in a whirlwind of cameras, kitchens, and curiosity. Winning MasterChef South Africa and later hosting Girl Eat World took me from local markets to street stalls across the globe, uncovering how food connects people through story, memory, and meaning. But behind the flavours, I found something deeper calling me: I wanted to understand why we eat the way we do.
That curiosity evolved into formal study: an MSc in Psychology, certification as a Nutrition and Health Coach, and training in yoga and integrative wellness. These tools helped me see that food, mind, and behaviour are not separate – they are deeply connected.
Understanding the link between my plate and my nervous system allowed me to resolve my non‑clinical, yet disordered, food‑related behaviours that were robbing me of the delight I once found in mealtimes.
Part of the integrative wellness coaching service that I offer is about holding space for millennials to overcome the challenges of their daily lives so that they can move more freely, mindfully, and purposefully in their worlds.
My coaching blends evidence‑based psychology, behaviour‑change strategies, and practical food wisdom from years in professional kitchens and media prodMore...
