Tom is a Contracts Manager in the Legal Services Department of the University of the Arts London (UAL). He has advised on several sensitive matters, ranging from drafting cease and desist letters to alleged trade mark infringers, to advising on risk management in taking action protect interests in donated property, to assisting in the preparation of documentation for litigation. Prior to joining UAL, Tom was the Intellectual Property Officer at Naomi Korn Associates, advising museums and SMEs on the use and risk management of their intellectual property rights. Also, he was instructed for a period as a Solicitor’s Agent, appearing in court over 60 times representing clients in matters ranging from credit hire claims to interlocutory hearings.
Tom originally studied Music at Trinity College, Cambridge. During his time as an undergraduate, he was awarded the Hooper Declamation Prize and was a recipient of the Alan Gray Grant. After deciding to pursue a legal career, Tom then went to Queen Mary University of London to study for a MSc in the Management of Intellectual Property and a PGCert in Intellectual Property Law, supported by a Herchel Smith Scholarship. He then completed his GDL and Bar Course at BPP University and City University of London respectively. He was awarded the Tatjana Finkelstein GDL Scholarship and the Bedingfield Bar Scholarship by Gray’s Inn. While at City, he was awarded the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators Prize for achieving the highest mark in his International Commercial Trade and Dispute Resolution module on the Bar Course.
Outside of professional commitments, Tom is a published academic and supervises intellectual property and tort law at the University of Cambridge. Also, he is an Independent Advisor to the Trustees of Neurodiversity in Law, a charity he originally founded, and advocates for neurodivergent recruitment and retention in the legal profession.
