I have been a criminal defense attorney for 24 years. I specialize in the defense of federal criminal cases. Additionally, in 2010, I cofounded the Ascend re-entry program with my colleague, Christine Morse Fitch. As criminal defense lawyers, we saw far too many well-meaning people come back into the system over and over again. We cofounded Ascend to address the root causes of crime, and to help people get on a healthy, happy and successful path. With each transformation, our community became safer. We created an evidence-based curriculum that uses law and psychology to teach people the reasons that they end up back in the criminal system over and over and to teach them the pathway out.
