Petula Burks is a communications enthusiast who's been in this changing profession for 20 years. After spending nearly, a decade in local government handling media relations, growing social media presence, standardizing marketing & messaging, working closely with administrations & elected officials, coordinating & marketing events, researching & gathering information, facilitating public meetings, creating/writing policies & procedures & representing the organization(s) in both formal & informal settings, Petula changed her focus to the public health ecosystem. Prior to joining the Greater Sacramento Economic Council (GSEC), Petula served as the Dir. of the Center for Public Affairs with Washington State Department of Health. She was responsible for convening collaborative project circles for in-depth discussion around policy, community relations, health equity, & communication regarding health issues affecting the lives of Washingtonians. In this role, Petula works to establish relationships with local, state & national media, develop regional narratives, use strategic PR & communication techniques to proactively promote the organization, stakeholders & regional partners. Before moving west, Petula served as the Dir. of Public Affairs for the City of Miami Gardens. In this role, she oversaw a $5M budget, co-produced Jazz in the Gardens, established partnerships with community stakeholders, produced over 144 City events, created ad & ed. campaigns, & planned crisis communication.
