Indy Hunjan is Director of Kala Phool which was founded in 1988 as a direct response to the lack of authentic diverse programming in the South East of the UK. Within five years of starting Kala Phool, Indy found herself working nationally and then internationally, co-producing, co-curating and touring work. The work pivots on cultural and artistic communities grounded within an artform that may not get the recognition it deserves - Kala Phool has helped shape and create spaces and environments for work to flourish. Namely developing and delivering the UK’s largest Hip Hop Festival, Rising Styles for eight years, or for working with Arts Council England and securing strategic platforming for the UK and European Mela sector. Her production MI21 (Mother India 21st Century Remix) saw worldwide success over its 12yr lifespan. Indy is a Cluster Member of CEDIA (Cluster of Equity Diversity Inclusion in the Arts) at BCU (Birmingham City University) where CEDIA plays an important part in the cultural access landscape of the West Midlands. Working as a Cultural Consultant, Indy works in partnership to bring together the right team to ensure the highest quality delivery of outputs. She has worked with UK and international venues, festivals, educational bodies, local authorities and has bridged significant stakeholder needs along the way. Indy is value driven and for her it is all about the work, the partnerships created and what legacy the work has. Given the varied areas of work Indy works within, she also began her Mentoring journey 3yrs ago - she supports early-mid career Global Majority individuals and businesses in unpicking knots and becoming their best selves.More...
