Born in Guernsey & hailing from ancient Norman farming family. His parents lived through the German Occupation and spoke Guernsey Norman-French as their mother-tongue. Jonathan has also lived in London and Paris where he obtained graduate & post graduate qualifications.
Entering Guernsey politics in 2000, he has served in a variety of capacities — as Deputy Finance Minister, Home Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Chief Minister. In the latter role his portfolio included responsibility for Guernsey's international affairs, especially with regards to European matters.
In 2016 he was appointed to the newly created role of Minister for External Relations & Constitutional Affairs. He was re-elected to this position after the 2020 general election, helping to steer the Bailiwick through the more intense Brexit negotiations and global international relations environment.
He has graduate and post-graduate qualifications in French, Music, Philosophy and Theology. Whilst living in London he trained in accountancy and worked for the government in tax fraud investigation. Returning to Guernsey a significant part of his life has been involved in christian ministry and the third sector, especially in the areas of governance, reform, training and leadership development. He is an ordained minister and served for over 20 years as senior pastor of the Rock Community Church.
He has a keen interest in the arts, history, community wellbeing and has served on the boards of several charities and non-profit organisations both locally and internationally.More...
